Position Overview

Position Overview
A Design Engineer is responsible for the engineering duties required to maintain, grow and improve a portfolio of lighting products and services.  The successful candidate can create 3D designs from scratch, work with manufacturing facilities and vendors to procure prototype parts, fabricate prototypes as needed, and create the data model to facilitate product ordering through production.  Other duties include interfacing with various departments including Manufacturing, Product Management, Quality and other Engineering Departments.


Duties and Responsibilities
* Key member of the New Products Development (NPD) team to deliver new products per established parameters, including performance, budget and schedule.
* Design and evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability.
* Manage external design/development vendors to ensure delivery of new products to product scope & specification.
* Work with marketing, engineering, sourcing, and the production staff at various facilities to ensure that all projects meet internal and external customer requirements, including performance, schedule and budget.
* Request and evaluate testing (thermal, photometric, rain, dust) as needed for third party certification (UL, CSA,etc.).
* Utilize Solid Edge CAD software for solid model design and drawing creation.
* Utilize SAP business software, including bill of material creation and variant configurator input for modular bills material management.


Skills and Experience
* Must be proficient in MS Excel.
* Demonstrated proficiency in various CAD packages including AutoCAD, Solid Edge and/or other solid modeling software.
* SAP ERP system experience desirable.
* Strong technical background with a working knowledge of sheet metal product design, solid modeling, and manufacturing processes/documentation.
* Excellent communications skills: interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.


* A 4-year degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) is preferred.
* An Associate's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 8+ years of related engineering experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
