Job Overview
Provide programming and setup for CNC machines per print for customer orders in a timely manner for production purposes, while complying with current policies and procedures, QMS and safety requirements.
A Day In The Life
Roles & Responsibilities:
- All of the Duties and Responsibilities called out in job description “JD-246B CNC Operator – CMCA”
- Maintain proper storage of necessary tooling and setup cards.
- Perform setup inspection before releasing job to an operator to run.
- Ensure the CNC operator is knowledgeable of the:
- Proper operation of the machine
- Any safety devices and safety rules
- Proper handling of the product
- Type and frequency of inspections
- Use of the comparative sample
- Past problems or experiences with the subject part
- Steps taken as a problem arises
- Disposal of any generated scrap
- The proper documentation of shop orders, drawings, inspection charts, and move tags
- Correct manner of keeping tooling free of shaving, etc.
- Understand that operators and setup personnel are not authorized to make changes to shop orders, drawings, or charts
- When required, make adjustments to a setup, change drill and taps to ensure continued conformance to specifications.
- Provide training for new or temporary employees.
- Plan numerical control program to control machining of metal parts on CNC machine tools by performing the following duties:
- Analyze drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates.
- Determine reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
- Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
- Write setup cards to guide setup and operation of machine.
- Write program of machine instructions to regulate movement of machine along cutting path.
- Observe operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions.
- May assign operators to jobs.
- Other duties as directed by supervisor.
- Offer improvements or guidelines for better operation of CNC machines.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

- Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of five years of experience programming Haas CNC Machines. Experience setting up multiple dual vises on machine pallets. Minimum of five years of blue print reading and manual caliper experience. Have a strong mechanical aptitude and preventive maintenance skills. Have some supervisory experience.
- Experience with AutoCAD and MasterCAM a plus.
- Mathematical Skills - Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to understand and carry out detailed written and verbal instructions, and be proficient in order of operation skills.
- Computer Skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Certificates, Licenses, Training, and Job Qualification – Successfully qualify as a CMCA CNC Operator, as defined by job description “JD-246B CNC Operator – CMCA”
