Job Overview
Responsible for organization, execution and coordination of product development project assignments utilizing a staff of Mechanical Engineers and Designers. The primary objectives are to ensure that key customer requirements are incorporated into new products and are designed for full compliance to all pertinent industry standards.
A Day In The Life

- Lead the Wiegmann Design Engineering team in the execution of new product development projects (NPD).
- Ensure Voice of the Customers is effectively reflected in the scope and requirements of key new product development (NPD) projects.
- Ensure that all design projects are executed correctly within our ENGIN tollgate NPD system adhering to all product & marketing requirements, UL or other standards requirements, and within the project schedule.
- Manage and oversee Wiegmann product specials ensuring that all required documentation is executed correctly and timely as in input to our Juarez manufacturing team.
- Evaluate and assign work in accordance with priorities and individual skills.
- Annually evaluate performance of individual subordinates.
- Prepare and maintain project schedules.
- Check concepts, layouts and designs, review and assist in design work with regard to function, all requirements, safety, cost, project definition, and conformance to Codes and Standards.
- Designate pertinent testing and evaluate results.
- Review with and obtain approval from Sr. Manager/Director of Engineering of all phases of project assignment.
- Schedule required project reviews and design reviews to secure agreement with other departments (Sales, Manufacturing, etc.) on project direction.
- Keep up to date and support new / revised industry standards, regulatory agency and code requirements and secure necessary approvals for new and revised products (UL, CSA, ETL, IEC, NEMA etc).
- Keep up to date on new materials, processes and applications as they apply to our products and recommend improvements (performance, cost, etc.).
- Identify and recommend improvements to the design engineering & product development process.
- Identify and recommend training needed to improve efficiency.
- Additional responsibilities and tasks to be assigned as needed based on organizational and company needs.

Educational Requirements:
- BSME or Equivalent required. MS preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- 5 years engineering experience at senior level Design and Engineering of sheet metal enclosures and/or other mechanical products.
- Management experience is preferred.
- Strong team leadership skills, project management skills, interpersonal and facilitation skills required.
