Job Overview

Coordinate the design, development, and documentation of Wiegmann specials using Autodesk Inventor 3D and AutoCAD engineering software.  Is responsible for the entire specials front end process up to the handoff with manufacturing engineering.  Work with the Engineering Management to distribute regular reporting on specials vitality and KPI’s.  Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable codes and standards and adhere to and obtain all required agency certifications. (UL, CSA, IEC, NEMA, etc).

            
 

A Day In The Life

  • Communicate with Wiegmann engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and assure project completion of customer specials/MTO projects in a timely manner.
  • Act as point person and internal consultant providing technical guidance to specials team on complex projects.
  • Independently develop/design new products from concept to full production using 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor).
  • Report project status as needed to management and take all necessary steps to maintain project schedules
  • Design products to be in conformance with all necessary agency standards (UL, CSA, ETL, IEC etc).
  • Produce full engineering documentation including detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, performance specifications and UL submittals if necessary.
  • Redesign products for improved function, cost reductions and sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist in tooling and manufacturing process choices. Disposition first article inspection reports.
  • Complete engineering change (EC) requests and report EC status updates as needed to management and take all necessary steps to maintain project schedules.
  • Keep up to date on industry standards, regulatory agency and code requirements and secure necessary approvals for new and revised products (UL, CSA, ETL, IEC, etc.).
  • Additional responsibilities and tasks to be assigned as needed based on organizational and company needs.

 

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • AS Degree (Associates) in Engineering or equivalent experience (Mechanical preferred)
  • 5-10 years minimum in Design NEMA Electrical Enclosures and/or sheet metal fabrication. 
  • Strong project management skills in handling multiple simultaneous projects. 
  • Skilled in 3D CAD software preferably Autodesk Inventor. 
  • A self-starter capable of independently handling all required engineering tasks.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English required.
