Job Overview

We are looking forward for “Sr Engineer – Mechanical Design (Casting)” based in Chennai, India. The position requires a highly energetic, result-driven, self-motivated, and proactive individual with sound knowledge of Mechanical Design and development. The candidate should also possess strong Leadership, interpersonal, presentation, communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder relationship management skills. Other core competency requirements are Customer focus, Strategic thinking, Functional Excellence, Integrity & Ethics, and Professional Maturity.

Overall candidate should have around 4 to 8 years of experience in Mechanical product design and development. Good Knowledge of Casting Design. Need to collaborate & work with US product engineering team. Design the casting product as per ASTM and ISO standards.

 

A Day In The Life

  • Need to understand the electrical products and conceptualize new ideas for new product development and for the betterment of existing products
  • Need to design the product as per ASTM & ISO standards. Need to create Drawings based on ASME Y14.5M – 2009 standards.
  • Design cast components (Cast Aluminum Alloy/ Cast Copper Alloy/ Tin-Plated Copper) based on functional and customer specifications.
  • Define parting lines, cores, draft angles, fillets, and machining allowances.
  • Support pattern plate design and tool development. Develop gating, riser, runner, and feeding systems.
  • Conduct casting flow simulations (solidification, shrinkage, porosity), evaluate casting manufacturability and suggest design optimizations. Coordinate with the tooling team.
  • Good knowledge of design tools FMEA, VA/VE & DFMA methodologies
  • Good Team player - Develop good interaction with team manager and team members
  • Should have good communication skills oral & written. Interact with US engineers to understand the requirements of the project
  • Should act as technical interface to US team and is responsible to ensure that projects are executed within agreed schedules
  • Maintain high-Quality standards, project documentation & deliver projects within a critical timeline.

Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical

Min. 4 to 8 years Design & Development.

Strong knowledge of casting processes (Sand, Shell, Investment, Die Casting – as applicable)

Knowledge of ASTM & ISO standards

Good knowledge of GD&T

Good knowledge of 3D modeling and assembly using Autodesk Inventor

Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD software

Experience in the manufacturing industry is an added advantage.

Experience in electromechanical product design is an added advantage

Exposure to PDM/PLM Systems

Good Communication Skills

Knowledge on Basic FEA and Tolerance Stack-up analysis

Knowledge of DFMEA, VA/VE, and DFMA Methodology
