BURNDY Technology and Global Business Services Private Limited (HUBBELL INDIA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hubbell Inc.  Hubbell India provides Engineering Services, Business Solutions and IT Services. Hubbell Engineering located in Ascendas, ITPL,Chennai, is engaged in the business of computer aided design and engineering services. The Hubbell Business Solutions functions at Infopark Kochi, provide superior business intelligence, knowledge services and business process solutions across Hubbell divisions and Corporate.  IT Services team is spread across Chennai and Kochi.

Position Overview

Responsible for managing the Aclara product development team in Chennai to include all aspects of technical design and development as well as personnel management and development.  Coordinate with global engineering teams and provide local technical leadership and expertise to organize and guide all aspects of engineering for development and sustaining of products for the Smart Grid Industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead a team of engineers in developing embedded products for the Hubbell communication systems which could include firmware, hardware and mechanical design with the focus on firmware development.
•    Document, monitor and improve the product development processes.
•    Ensure proper peer reviews and require solid objective evidence of key design parameter analysis and design verification tests.
•    Develop and maintain project staffing plans.
•    Responsible for the development of product architectures across product lines. 
•    Lead a SCRUM team as SCRUM master.
•    Serve as SME in development of technology roadmaps for product lines.
•    Develop, track and publish metrics.
•    Ensure consistent implementation of design processes and metric tracking across locations.
•    Schedule and monitor design, code and test plan reviews.
•    Institute appropriate formal methods and procedures, including training as necessary.
•    Resolve conflicts, remove roadblocks, get answers to questions and concerns.
•    Facilitate project-related communications with other departments.
•    Identify and communicate key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership and teamwork to achieve business results.
•    Support the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote the Company key messages.
•    Direct staff of embedded product development engineers including conducting and ensuring the completion of performance reviews.
•    Serve as group and technical lead to synthesize design inputs from various stakeholders and define overall system behaviors.
•    Ensure that all designs meet requirements of governing agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Industry Canada (IC).
•    Responsible for onboarding of new employees and associated training, including yearly reviews and career development  
•    Develop discipline specific estimates for NPI projects as required.

•    Position operationally reports to VP Communication System Design


Additional Responsibilities:
•    Continually evaluate new technologies, look for technical advancements.
•    Keep cognizant of emerging technologies and markets.
•    Perform initial evaluations of relevant new technologies.
•    Contribute to budget planning and tracking.
•    Coordinate work with other departments, including Software Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Product Management, Customer Support, and Manufacturing.

Skills and Experience

•    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
•    Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing, developing, and testing real time embedded products.
•    Competent working with Microsoft Office and other related Windows platform software.
•    Demonstrated ability to lead a team in the design and development of high-volume consumer electronics. 
•    Experience developing products in an Agile environment
•    Proficient communicating in English orally and written

•    Experience leading embedded product development teams.
•    Experience working with team members in multiple countries and time zones.
•    Familiarity with FCC (Federal Communication Commission) part 90, part 15, Industry Canada standards and regulations for licensed and ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) band products.
•    Masters level degree.
•    Familiarity with communications, protocol selection, and network configuration.
