Job Overview
Responsible for leading the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) initiatives, policies, and procedures for the Armorcast business in Chatsworth, CA. The EHS Safety Manager will support the facility in furthering Safety and Environmental goals and Safety Culture by providing direction, oversight and guidance to operations, enabling the education, training and rollout of updated policies, developing procedures, recommending modifications and updating work practices and protocols to drive continuous improvement. The incumbent will work with site leadership to identify and provide solutions and best practices to drive safety and environmental initiatives. THE EHS Manager is also responsible for ensuring compliance with government regulations, updating JSA’s, conducting training sessions for new hires and existing personnel, and implementing new programs to maximize a safe work environment. Cross-functional collaboration and buy-in from site leadership will be key to successful program implementations. The site is seeking a passionate safety leader with a drive to take on challenging situations and deliver strong results. Experience in injury reduction strategies and demonstration of proactive results is key. Compensation for this role will range from $135-150k annually.

A Day In The Life
- Act as EHS subject matter expert to ensure Safety and Environmental compliance with company, state and federal policies and regulations.
- Leads and facilitates development of EHS programs, policies, work procedures and training including inspections, assessments, program audits, incident investigations, data reporting, monitoring, report submissions, and on the floor safety and environmental leadership.
- Provide clear communication about the safety program across all functions and deliver a hands-on approach to increase engagement in safety practices.
- Supports and participates in risk reduction activities including: ergonomic, manual material handling, industrial hygiene, and machine guarding assessments.
- Proactively lead the Company Injury/ Illness Prevention Programs through identification of hazardous workplace conditions and recommending engineering or administrative controls, in accordance with regulatory standards and company policies and procedures and working cross functionally to drive improvements in processes.
- Schedules, leads and directs Safety and Environmental Kaizens.
- Assists with incident reviews, root cause determination and implementation of corrective actions.
- Promotes employee engagement activities.
- Promotes the use of the EMS database to manage and track injuries, compliance calendar, JSA’s, corrective actions and other key EMS program elements. Uses this database to analyze first aid, near miss, and recordable incidents to implement and communicate proactive measures to prevent similar incidents.
- Coordinates with 3rd Party EHS Vendors such as FM Global, Liberty Mutual, and site assigned Safety & Environmental Consultants.
- Partners with site operational leadership teams and corporate EHS leadership to help drive the safety culture, policy and and compliance efforts and be a primary contact for safety concerns and situations
- Manages the standardization of training initiatives to ensure harmonization and compliance
- Risk reduction activities will include but not be limited to the following areas: respiratory protection, confined space, indoor air quality, office and industrial ergonomic evaluations, noise, wastewater discharge, air emissions, spill/emergency response, and waste management.
- Conduct selected safety program audit activities and recommend and drive corrective actions as requested.
- Lead Safety Committee both formally through meetings and informally through coaching and influencing safe practices.
- Build trust with shop floor employees by engaging with the team daily.

What will help you thrive in this role?
- Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental/Health Sciences or related field
- 5-10 years of EHS and/or Safety Leadership experience, preferably in heavy manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and CA EHS regulations
- Experience proactively implementing safety initiatives and programs
- Strong experience in injury prevention initiatives and programs
- Strong attention to detail and ability to build trust with shop floor staff
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Microsoft Office and database skills
- Comfortable executing through a hands-on approach
- Strong problem solving skills
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
