Position Overview
Hubbell is on the search for a Continuous Improvement Engineer at our Chatsworth, CA location. As part of a recent acquisition, the Chatsworth facility is experiencing exciting growth. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying and executing opportunities for improvement throughout the Chatsworth, CA facility. This includes safety, process efficiency, quality, reducing waste, training and optimizing labor utilization, and improving overall performance toward World Class Manufacturing. This individual will be an active coach on the production floor, helping all personnel understand and carry out Lean Manufacturing principles each day while fostering the right culture of participation and engagement. Candidate must be a highly motivated and independent worker who has a passion for continuous improvement and the development of others. Position will offer complex challenges that require teamwork, in-depth data analysis, original thinking, persistence, and a positive attitude.
Duties and Responsibilities
Continuous Improvement Leadership:
• Analyze the current state and identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement based on data and hard facts.
• Develop continuous improvement strategies by translating business objectives into actionable projects.
• Communicate and exemplify the company’s continuous improvement philosophy, vision, and expectations.
• Share lean and continuous improvement best practices throughout the organization.
• Act as a Lean/Continuous Improvement business partner to all departments and levels (top leadership to shop floor), challenging processes, proposing ideas, and driving change.
• Act as a change agent around continuous improvement opportunities.
• Train teams in improvement processes to optimize floor layout and material flow using lean concepts.
• Create and manage sustainable improvement through DMAIC, PDCA, RCPS, 30-Day Follow-Up meetings, Steering Committee, Sustainment Metrics, etc.
• Create and deliver Lean training for all levels of the organization.
• Develop a lean culture of participation and engagement throughout the facility.
Lean/Six Sigma:
• Prepare cost reduction budgets and coordinate/execute actions to reach targets.
• Lead & manage projects through the Control phase.
• Find opportunities to reduce cost, lead time, and inventory.
• Identify quality improvement opportunities.
• Evaluate workflow and cell design and develop improvements to enhance safety and productivity.
• Lead mapping & CI tools exercises to determine and record business improvement areas.
• Track and complete cost reduction on process improvements.
• Document and communicate improvements in manufacturing overhead, efficiency, and utilization.
Skills and Experience
• Minimum experience of 3-5 years in Lean Manufacturing. Must know what “Good looks like.”
• Six Sigma Lean Green Belt or Black Belt certification: preferred
• Exposure to a Lean Environment or Lean tools: Value Stream Mapping, 5S implementation, root cause problem solving, 7KOW, FMEA, etc.
• Bachelor’s in Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering or related field preferred.
• Must be able to explain and convince why people should follow a certain direction (sell your ideas to others).
• Must be able to reach consensus with Top Management and support the given vision/ direction.
