Position Overview


The Commodity Manager is responsible for handling all of the purchasing activities related to a specific assigned commodity or group of parts.  They will develop and execute global sourcing strategies; plan and implement activities for timely, cost-effective procurement, planning and on-time delivery of assigned category products; prioritize and maintain balance between cost of acquisition and cost of possession to maximize return on investment including methodologies to maximize working capital.  The position reports to the Burndy US Sourcing Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Transacts and maintains SAP (ERP) purchase order data in adherence to policy and procedure.
  • Works with Hubbell and third party financial services teams to ensure timely and accurate P2P process flow.
  • Identifies sources of supply, seek out the lowest total cost alternatives, and develop solid working relationships with the suppliers.
  • Ensures an uninterrupted supply of materials while satisfying all quality criteria and inventory targets.
  • Conducts regular competitive quotation and analysis exercises.
  • Negotiates with suppliers.
  • Provides detailed reporting on commodity related market conditions.
  • Work closely with other functional areas on NPD, DtV and productivity projects.
  • Responsible for results on cost, quality, and delivery performance of assigned suppliers and products.
  • Works with the Sourcing Managers in developing long term supply strategies that will meet the company's operational objectives.
Skills and Experience


  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 5+ years related experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Strategic material/commodity sourcing, vendor negotiation and supplier performance experience a must.
  • Experience in executing Global Supply Chain Initiatives & Strategic Planning.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting blue prints and specifications.
