Job Overview
The Shipping/Receiving Inspector manages product flow into and out of the facility and verifies that incoming and outgoing materials meet approved drawings, specifications, and regulatory standards. The role executes transactions in SAP, performs product testing, including but not limited to dimensional verification, generating quality notifications, ensures proper packaging/export compliance, coordinating logistics, and reports discrepancies to production team, planning, and the Quality Manager.
A Day In The Life
Receiving Inspection
- Perform incoming, first article, in‑process, and final inspections per approved drawings/specifications and documented procedures.
- Use inspection/measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, gauges, etc.) to complete dimensional verification and product testing.
- Understand acceptance/rejection criteria; initiate and document product acceptance or nonconformance decisions in accordance with procedure.
- Generate Quality Notifications (QN) in SAP for discrepancies; clearly document defect description, lot/batch, quantities, and affected work instruction.
- Quarantine nonconforming material, escalate to production management and planning immediately, assist with rework coordination and re‑inspection.
- Participate in product and process audits and perform layered process checks as required.
- Train future inspectors on policies, visual acceptability, measurement processes, and procedures as directed by the Quality Assurance.
- Maintain accurate, legible records of all inspections and tests conducted.
Shipping & Receiving / Logistics
- Receive materials: verify count, identity, and condition against packing slips, POs, and other shipping documents; inspect per receiving inspection plan (where applicable).
- Transact all relevant SAP movements; maintain accurate records for shipping and receiving activities.
- Pick, pack, and ship orders; operate UPS/FedEx systems and other shipping platforms; ensure correct labeling, documentation, and export compliance.
- Execute pick ticket pulling, sub‑contracting procedures, and delivery of received products to proper areas.
- Ensure proper packaging methods to prevent damage and meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Process returns (RMA) to/from facility, ensuring proper documentation, inspection, and system transactions.
- Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely across the facility (certification required or obtained after hire).
- Maintain area 5S, request and manage supplies, and perform daily clean‑up tasks.
- Follow written and verbal instructions from Leads/Supervisors; maintain regular attendance and be available for overtime (including weekends) as needed.
Cross‑Functional & Compliance
- Use SAP and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) for all execution and documentation.
- Follow import/export procedures and any applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support cycle counts/inventory accuracy activities when needed.
- Escalate issues that impact safety, quality, delivery, or compliance without delay.
What will help you thrive in this role?
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2+ years’ experience in shipping/receiving and/or 3–5 years QA/QC experience (combination preferred).
- Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings, shop orders, and shipping/receiving instructions.
- Metrology: Skilled usage of tape measures, calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales, and other calibrated measuring equipment.
- Proficient with SAP (or similar ERP), Microsoft Excel/Outlook/Word.
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and strong written/verbal communication.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Familiarity with current ISO requirements and regulatory expectations relevant to the product.
- Prior experience generating QN/NCR in SAP.
- Experience training operators on quality criteria/visual acceptability.
- Experience in logistics and dispatch coordination
