Job Overview
The Supply Chain Manager for the Utility Automation Business Unit is responsible to oversee the global supply chain for directly operated plants, as well as manage the delivery commitments of internal and external contract manufacturers. This includes technical and personnel oversight to ensure alignment between purchasing activities and production plans to meet customer requirements and revenue commitments. This position will also organize and drive the annual and monthly revenue and orders planning and daily tracking of production progress to revenue commitments with associated analysis and reporting of billings, bookings, backlog, and inventory.
A Day In The Life
- Work with product managers to generate annual revenue and orders forecast for input to finance for budget/PSI (Production, Sales, Inventory) creation.
- Analyze daily shipments and bookings to track revenue and orders progress relative to monthly, quarterly, and annual targets and update PSI (Production, Sales, Inventory) reports.
- Plan and forecast material demand based on customer orders and marketing forecasts.
- Work with product management to analyze demand plans and optimize safety stock levels to meet BU agreed upon customer service levels and conduct quarterly review of SS levels.
- Responsible for ensuring material master is setup properly to drive MRP execution.
- Balance production operations considering product mix, make calculations, and update schedules accordingly.
- Develop master schedule for each plant production activities.
- Ensure timely customer orders promising (OPSD) and ensure current promise dates (CPSD) are updated regularly to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Conduct timely reviews with Engineering, Product Management and CSR’s to clear sales order blocks.
- Work with site production managers to drive adherence to the master schedules and work actions to mitigate significant deviations via alternate material, resource borrowings, and any other options necessary to hit revenue targets.
- Manage the MRP process and respective buyers for the procurement, receipt, storage, delivery of materials to production areas and shipping.
- Manage planners in the implementation of the production plan, generate work orders for the production floor, and drive their execution to meet the plan.
- Develop sourcing strategies to reduce costs and minimize sole-source risk and manage supplier qualifications.
- Implement and execute Key Performance Indicators to track buyer activity, minimize material shortages, and catch errors before affecting production activities.
- Develop annual productivity plans and execute with suppliers, engineering, and operations.
- Maintain lead-time analysis for all product lines, publish to marketing and update SAP.
- Maintain on-time-delivery (OTD) status and report out monthly. Develop OTD forecast annually and update monthly.
- Maintain past-due order status and work with all functions to minimize and report out monthly. Develop past due forecast annually and update monthly.
- Maintain Vendor (OTD) status, scorecard to manage supplier performance and report out monthly. Prepare vendor (OTD) forecast annually and update monthly.
- Develop annual inventory plan, monthly inventory forecast, manage inventory to plan and reduction risk of obsolete material.
- Conduct quarterly Excess and Obsolete inventory analysis and write-off proposals to management.
- Conduct annual ABC classification.
- Perform annual material cost roll-up updates.
- Manage logistics department for orderly material receipt, storage, and shipment with optimized costs.
- Manage the packaging and shipment strategies of finished goods to customers for optimal cost/protection plan.
- Execute annual physical inventory process and audit for the BU directly operated plants.
- Ensure material handlers stock materials efficiently, support smooth and timely movement of materials to the production floor, and maintain high inventory accuracy through consistent oversight of cycle count performance.
- Review, approve and execute ECO (engineering change order) and CAR (corrective action requests). Review BOM (bill of material) and routing changes implemented to minimize inventory impact, scrapping and new material procurement.
What will help you thrive in this role?
- Extensive SAP knowledge as it pertains to manufacturing planning and scheduling.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for organizing, analyzing, and reporting.
- Minimum of seven years of electronics and electro-mechanical manufacturing supply chain management and planning experience.
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must have ability to influence and extract productivity out of non-direct reports in addition to direct team.
- Bachelors degree in financial, technical, or business related fields. MBA a plus.
