Position Overview
This position involves being a part of Engineering team that designs, develops and sustains medium-voltage switchgear products for electric utilities in the area of Distribution Switching and Distribution Automation involving measurement, protection and communications.
The individual in this position will be responsible for managing various products such as Single-Phase Recloser (15/27 kV), Three-Phase Recloser (15/27/38kV), Sectionalizers (15/27/38kV), Capacitor Switches, PFC Cap Banks, SCADA Gateways etc. from Engineering standpoint. Management responsibilities include designing and developing new products, sustain existing Medium-Voltage Switchgear products, handle feature additions/enhancements in existing products, handle field issues, supervise functional testing, plan and manage external lab (Type) testing as per IEEE/IEC standards.
This is a managerial-level position with at least 4-6 direct reports.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct & effectively lead Product Engineering Team for designing/developing new products, and for sustaining existing Medium-Voltage Switchgear products.
- Direct & supervise Product Engineering Team for designing new product features, investigating field issues, generate Design of Experiments (DoE) framework for performing root cause analysis of the field issues to resolve accurately & quickly
- Work closely with Product Management, Field Applications Engineering for requirements gathering (VOC), for gathering more information about product related issues, defining new product features etc.
- Play a critical and substantial role in gathering Requirements & performing detailed-level Requirements breakdown to generate accurate SOW for product enhancements, new product development, & for Value Engineering projects
- Work closely with Manufacturing team for launching new design changes to production, help out with issues/problems on the manufacturing floor as needed, help monthly shipments as needed
- Identify cost take out opportunities & lead value engineering projects for Medium-Voltage Switchgear products to help w/ margin improvements
- Be a go-getter as an Engineering leader with ability to get things done to meet expected timelines, shipment schedule, Productivity targets etc.
- Play a critical and substantive role in meeting necessary timelines for solving field issues, developing new products by working with expected sense of urgency
- Act with necessary engineering judgement to solve complex/non-trivial technical problems related to Medium-Voltage Switchgear products.
Skills and Experience
- Must have technical core competency in Medium-Voltage Switchgear Products (Design, Development & sustaining engineering)
- BSEE or BSME w/ at least 5 years of effectively managing a team to solve eng'g problems
- Must have performed hands-on design, development & sustaining eng'g work on Medium-Voltage Switchgear Products for at least 5 years
- Must be able to maintain ownership of all eng'g artifacts associated w/ Medium-Voltage Switchgear products w/ high degree of attention to detail
- Must have multiple yrs of exposure to Medium-Voltage Switchgear products w. r. t. Product development, handling various developmental issues, handling functional testing, handling Type testing etc.
- Must have multiple years of exposure to real-field issues related to Medium-Voltage Switchgear & ability to understand & resolve them
- Must be able to hold his team members accountable; prior experience in resolving conflicts as related to technical requirements, committed timelines & deliverables
- Must be a good communicator w/ strong interpersonal skills, accessible, approachable & someone who breeds positive morale
- Exposure to Cybersecure development practices for Medium-Voltage Switchgear products, firmware development, GUI development as related to Med-Voltage switchgear is a plus
