Sr. Hardware Engineering Manager


Hubbell is seeking a Sr. Hardware Engineering Manager to join our progressive and dynamic fast-paced enterprise and device controls automation team.  These are exciting times - our industry and user expectations are changing and so are we! We are developing the next generation of world class Internet of Things (IoT) connected lighting controls and applications. This is a hands-on management role that will directly contribute to the development and expansion of our cutting edge, cloud-connected IoT applications and offerings with the latest hardware and software technologies and tools.  You will be part of our fast-growing innovative technology design center to be located in Round Rock, TX, a hi-tech hub north of Austin.


We are looking for a talented and creative problem solver to lead the hardware development team. You will be involved in the complete hardware development life cycle, from product concept to deployment in the field. This will require a strong leader and a high degree of collaboration among highly-talented, cross-functional and geographically-dispersed development teams. You will work closely with industry-best product owners, hardware and software engineers, and other development team members to understand the business needs, propose and develop end-to-end solutions.

Essential Functions
  • Lead the hardware development team - drive performance by fostering a collaborative environment with a high degree of accountability
  • Manage and participate in the development of high-performing and reliable hardware for embedded systems using microcontrollers, sensors and analog/digital interface circuits
  • Assess and distill marketing requirements into producible and cost-effective products
  • Collaborate with other development and support groups to produce innovative products and applications
  • Oversee product regulatory process and certifications for UL, FCC and other agencies as necessary
  • Support new products through release to manufacturing and field deployment
  • Participate in strategic and business planning functions including product strategies, workforce requirements and capital expense budget proposals.
  • Research, assess and adapt to new technologies necessary for future enhancements of products
  • Protect intellectual property through patent disclosures and applications
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University
  • 5+ years of analog and digital hardware development experience
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience in a product development environment
  • Practical, hands-on knowledge of hardware development for embedded systems including analog and digital components
  • Hands on knowledge of various standard communication protocols and topologies, including Ethernet, I2C, RS232, RS485, SPI
Preferred Qualification
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or closely-related discipline
  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) layout and schematic capture tools (PADS or similar)
  • Experience with CAD tools (Solidworks, AutoCad or similar)
  • Experience developing firmware for embedded systems
  • Experience with Commercial and Industrial lighting control systems
  • Sound understanding of Agile development processes
  • Knowledge of security vulnerability mitigation for embedded devices
  • Experience with wireless networks including Zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth Mesh
  • Experience working with geographically-dispersed teams
