Job Overview

The engineer in this role will be responsible for the technical aspects of New Product Development (NPD), re-design and cost reduction of products tailored to the high / extra-high voltage substation, distribution, and transmission sector.

A Day In The Life

  • Perform CAD modeling, detail drawings, FEA calculations, material selection, assist in patent searches, plan and coordinate tests, analyze costs, and solve design related problems.

  • Provide customer technical assistance as needed. Develop familiarity with applicable industry standards, and increase understanding of utility practices.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing on product design, tooling development, manufacturing processes, pilot runs and FAI.

  • Recommend and implement corrective actions for product deviations, customer inquiries, variation orders, ECRs and drawing changes.

  • Demonstrate and further develop a broad knowledge of design and manufacturing processes.

  • Develop proficiency in use of Inventor, AutoCad, Nastran FEA, and Vault.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field. Experience in designing or working with High Voltage Power Products a plus.

  • 3-5 years of product design experience preferred, with electrical products especially preferred.

  • AutoCAD, Coulomb or other Electric Field Analysis software, and Inventor experience preferred.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teammates.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.

  • Solid understanding of project management methodology.

  • Ability to develop detailed work plans, schedules, and specifications.

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
