Job Overview
Provide daily hands-on manufacturing engineering support to the Insulator Business Unit. The Insulator BU uses an epoxy/glass pultrusion process to create the rods used as the core of the insulator. A mechanical crimping process is used to attach hardware to the finished insulator. This position will support all aspects of both operations by developing and implementing tooling, machine, process, assembly, and testing improvements focused on continuously improving safety, quality, manufacturing efficiency, and reliability.

A Day In The Life
- Supports manufacturing operations, maintenance, and quality personnel to resolve daily issues in a timely manner. Support the Quality department in resolving Product Performance Inquiries (PPI).
- Take the lead, and supports others, in problem solving relative to products, equipment, and processes.
- Monitors work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and HPS standards.
- Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for the planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects.
- Ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned projects across all disciplines, and with all other project participants and stakeholders.
- Responsible for new process implementation and the improvement/optimization of current production processes.
- Responsible for continuous improvement and cost reduction activities in assigned areas.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining all process documentation and establishing the target rates for the jobs.
- Support new product launches and transfers. Manages the manufacturing process development and set-up.
- Specify and purchase equipment and tooling as needed to replace existing, or for new programs launches.
- Coach, teach, and develop others regarding process understanding to allow them to increase their capability/effectiveness, including mentoring junior engineers.
What will help you thrive in this role?
- Must have 2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a lean environment.
- Experience in scrap reduction, tool/fixture design, process development, and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to manage multiple projects; including project proposals, specifications, budget preparations, and implementation.
- Excellent written and oral communication. Ability to interface well with all levels of the organization, from operational personnel to upper management.
- Strong experience in both sustaining and improving processes.
- Experience in the use of SPC and/or other statistical controls.
- Proficient in design software, including 3D modeling using AutoCad Inventor or SolidWorks
- Understanding of diverse equipment mechanics and electrical controls/interfaces
- PLC troubleshooting experience is a plus
- Coding experience, VBA, Power Fx, or similar, is a plus
Experience with pultrusion or epoxy molding processes is a plus
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering General
