Job Overview

The Vice President of Technology T&D Infrastructure is responsible for development of market leading products across HUS (Hubbell Utility Solutions) T&D Infrastructure Strategic Business Unit, including all aspects of technical design and development as well as team development.

This position will be responsible for leading teams tasked with the development of a wide variety of transmission, distribution, substation, underground, OEM and communications products used by utilities. The products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.  Our products provide mission critical infrastructure and deliver power to millions of people worldwide. This leader will lead a team of 175 engineers under four separate Business leaders and P&Ls.

A Day In The Life

  • Partner with VPGMs and their respective Product Management teams to define aggressive but achievable product roadmaps, with commitment to delivery.
  • Lead technology planning activities aligning engineering priorities to business goals. 
  • Lead a team of highly skilled employees by directing department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, design for cost out, and develop testing designs and procedures. 
  • Lead engineering team to ensure our hardware product designs meet or exceed the performance requirements, meet quality standards, and are delivered on time.
  • Lead New Product Development (NPD) effort and collaborate with key internal and external partners.
  • Partner with Enterprise teams across Hubbell on NPX technology strategy, project planning, and execution of quality solutions that drive innovation.
  • Partner with Product Management to define aggressive but achievable product roadmaps, with commitment to delivery.
  • Work with Operations to ensure products are designed for manufacturability, testability, and assembly.
  • Effectively manage department budget to support attainment of product portfolio and P&L objectives. This includes delivery of on time products, systems and solutions that align with the HUS strategy.
  • Enable a culture of innovation that delivers differentiated, market leading solutions.

What will help you thrive in this role?

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field required.
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading large teams and product development projects.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the stature and self-confidence associated with direct and indirect leadership, and the ability to associate with all levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technology and market trends as a foundation for technology and product roadmaps.
  • Proven success in establishing key performance indicators, metrics, and focus to drive product development best practices.
  • Advanced negotiation, problem solving, and interpersonal skills (presentation, written and oral) with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or MBA).
  • Experience delivering solutions for utilities or other complex electronic, communications, or related technical and industrial entities.
