Position Overview

Hubbell Research is responsible for conceiving of, maturing, and demonstrating novel technologies to be used throughout Hubbell’s extensive product line. We are conducting applied research in energy distribution sensing, analysis, and control. This requires extremely talented, highly motivated, and productive researchers with both breadth and depth of expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Power systems
    • Distributed generation
    • Stability and control
    • Renewables
  • Signal processing
    • Remote sensing
    • Detection, estimation, and statistical learning
    • Information theory
    • Digital signal processing
  • Data analytics
    • ML/AI
    • Distributed computing
    • Data science

The Staff Research Engineer is an experienced member of the research staff. The Staff Research Engineer will make novel contributions as a theorist, experimentalist, or practitioner within their chosen field of expertise. Qualified candidates will have a record of outstanding research in a relevant field as well as excellent critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual research in energy distribution sensing, analysis, and control.
  • Make novel contributions to scientific and engineering understanding by application of first principals with scientific and mathematical rigor.  Test and codify abstract ideas to explain observed phenomenon.
  • Plan and oversee laboratory and field experiments to test hypotheses.  Analyze data collected in this way to prove or disprove hypotheses.  
  • Implement newly developed technologies in prototype platforms for experimentation and demonstration.
  • Provide written documentation of research.
  • Communicate research to stakeholders throughout Hubbell, industry, and academia.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to product development as technologies are integrated into Hubbell products.
  • May lead small teams of researchers in any of the above. 

Skills and Experience

  • 8 or more years experience in industrial or academic research
  • Publication and/or patent record demonstrating significant technical depth and experience
  • Outstanding critical thinking skills
  • A penchant for thinking creatively about problems with no known solutions
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues to a breadth of audiences

Education

Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
