Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, highly proactive Product Manager to join our growing Product Management team within our Marketing department. You will be part of an Agile development organization defining product strategy, roadmap, and features. You will lead Agile teams and work closely with Executive Leadership, Marketing, Sales, UX, Engineering to prioritize, build, and validate a complete product experience. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, startup environment, is hyper-organized, and is heavily biased towards action.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic

  • Own the product roadmap - set the strategy and feature definition for a product or product line (both new product development and post-launch upgrades/enhancements)
  • Recommend the nature and scope of present and future product lines by reviewing product specifications and requirements; identifying and appraising new product ideas for attractiveness and fit
  • Manage the product lifecycle: from concept, to design, sample production, testing, forecast, cost optimization, mass production, pricing, promotion, support, and ultimately end of life
  • Bring new products to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development programs; preparing return-on-investment analyses; establishing time schedules with engineering and manufacturing

Tactical

  • Define what cross-functional product development teams will deliver and the timeline for implementation; including creating a release plan, capturing actionable feedback and ideas, and prioritizing features
  • Own the product backlog; manage and prioritize the flow of work through continuous grooming of the backlog, with input from all stakeholders
  • Define releases and program increments and participate in release management activities
  • Provide information for management by preparing short-term and long-term product sales forecasts and special reports and analyses; answering questions and requests as needed
  • Work closely with supply chain to manage inventory turnover and product availability by reviewing and adjusting inventory levels and production schedules
  • Work closely with marketing to introduce and market new products by developing time-integrated launch plans 

Analytical

  • Analyze market and competitive conditions, laying out a product vision that is differentiated and delivers unique value based on customer demands
  • Determine customers' needs and desires by specifying the research needed to obtain actionable market information
  • Assess competitive landscape by continually comparing the company's product to competitors' products; anticipate and plan for potential competitive movements
  • Determine product pricing by utilizing market research data; reviewing production and sales costs; anticipating volume; investigate and communicate product feature tradeoffs to optimize the customer price/value equation
  • Build businesses cases that support investment in new product development and/or feature enhancement, define and forecast both financial and brand KPIs

Organizational

  • Provide cross-functional leadership, most notably between Engineering, UX, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support teams
  • Facilitate priority/trade-off discussions and decisions across multiple functional teams
  • Build consensus and buy-in from key stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Communicate the product vision and roadmap; consulting with relevant parties and keeping everyone informed of updates or changes
  • Proactively solve daily challenges and exercise sound judgment

Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years product management experience in software and/or hardware product development
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Proven record of working with business leadership and engineers to deliver technology (ideally both hardware and firmware) products and services; IoT/Wi-Fi connected device product development experience is a plus
  • Self-starter with an ability to motivate teams and deliver results
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, creative problem-solving, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great design, marketing and user experience instincts
  • Demonstrated ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to drive business value and improvements
  • Solid working knowledge of ALM or software project management methods and tools
  • Experience working within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®) is a major plus
