Position Overview

Primary finance business partner to the Hubbell Canada VP & GM. The Director of Finance has overall responsibility for the financial records of HC ULC , HCLP, Wepawaug Canada and Hubbell Management Inc. including the safeguarding of company assets, and the efficient utilization of financial resources. Also responsible for planning, forecasting, audit, tax and treasury functions for the four entities. Responsible for payroll and pension administration and establishment of programs to ensure corporate and employee objectives are met. Manages fleet program and procedures. Partners with Accounts Receivable shared services team to ensure cash objectives are met and to determine customer credit levels and policies. Understands and enforces Hubbell’s finance policies and procedures to ensure that appropriate controls are in place at applicable sites. A significant level of initiative is expected to achieve established objectives. This position requires a high level of accuracy, exposure to confidential information, and extensive contact with individuals within the company as well as customers, vendors, and Hubbell U.S. personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary finance business partner to the Hubbell Canada VP & GM
  • Maintain a system of effective internal controls in line with standard Hubbell, Inc. practices
  • Direct and coordinate financial planning and budget management functions.
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
  • Oversee daily operations of the finance and accounting department.
  • Manage the preparation of all financial reports.
  • Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal statutory reporting requirements.
  • Work with department managers to develop business plans.
  • Assist in establishing short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the department’s goals and objectives.
  • Serve as primary government liaison relative to financial issues.
  • Coordinate financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  • Represent the company externally to government agencies, auditors, and the general public
  • Manage the DB & DC Pension plans and Retirement Savings Plans, ensuring compliance with local and federal reporting requirements
  • Ensures all corporate legal documentation is correct and current, pension plans are properly administered and government filings are completed.
  • Partner with internal Accounts Receivable shared services team to review new customers, establish credit limits, validate customer deductions and support collection activities. Oversee payroll functions. Approve all payroll submissions and changes.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities as a Director and Officer of Hubbell Canada ULC and all Canadian affiliated companies:
    • Hubbell Canada LP
    • Wepawaug Canada Corp
    • Hubbell Management Inc
  • Responsible for adequacy of policies and procedures to ensure financial accuracy and adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley, and GAAP for both U.S. corporate and Canadian standards.
  • Responsible for the annual corporate income tax returns of Hubbell Canada ULC and related companies.
  • Main point of contact for all internal and external financial, internal control and cycle counting audits
  • Manages Hubbell Canada’s fleet program for company automobiles
  • Responsible for annual department budgets and Plans

Skills and Experience

• Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business with strong Accounting experience.
• Bachelors Degree in Accounting
• Eight plus (8+) years’ experience in a mid to senior level finance or accounting position, and CPA certification (preferred).
• Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Advanced knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
• Knowledge of federal and provincial financial regulations.
• Direct experience reconciling financial results between US GAAP (for Corporate reporting) and Canadian accounting regulations (for other statutory & tax reporting within Canada).
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
• Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
• Small and large project/program orientation.
• Ability to motivate teams
