Position Overview

This position serves as a strategic HR partner to senior leadership on engagement, labor and employee relations matters. As an HR leader, this position will collaborate with the HR Centers of Excellence, HR Business Partners as well as the Compliance and Legal functions to provide expertise and guidance on HR policy, employee and labor related issues and investigations. This position will work with HR leaders to evaluate and deliver programs to enhance employee engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead work with HR leadership to review, evaluate and deliver programs, policies and activities to promote employee engagement at all levels
  • Evaluate current state and develop and recommend overall employee engagement strategy
  • In partnership with Legal and Compliance functions, support confidential internal HR investigations and employee relations issues, reviewing human resources related investigations to ensure proper documentation and process are followed.
  • Partner with necessary parties to recommend resolution and assess remediation of human resources compliance matters.
  • Develop and review metrics to identify trends and recommend preventive strategies and long-term solutions surrounding employee issues and actions.
  • Review and revise training, as needed, for delivery to HR Business Partners to maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and in areas such as conducting and cooperating with internal investigations, performance management, non-discrimination, anti-harassment, etc.
  • Oversee HR policies and procedures: Developing, reviewing and revising as needed. Provide regular updates to leadership on policy changes and communicate policy objectives and procedures to employees, managers and HR field.
  • Coordinate, plan and implement labor relations strategy working with Legal, HR, business and corporate partners.
  • Identify areas for alignment including pay practices.
  • Maintain current understanding of federal and local laws and regulations relative to human resource administration.
  • Assist and advise HR and senior management regarding compliance responsibilities.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong leader with experience in union as well as nonunion sites, HR experience preferred.
  • Ability to assess, work with and communicate needs to all levels of employees
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience and expertise in labor and employment law required with a minimum of 5 years proven experience representing management in union environments.
  • Experience handling complex employee relations issues, including successful track record of conducting internal investigations.
  • Experience with grievances, arbitrations and unfair labor practice issues, investigating and responding to employment complaints required.
  • Brings excellent judgment, high integrity, and ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Experience managing highly sensitive workplace dispute and/or investigations.
  • Thinks strategically while having a hands-on approach to getting things done.
  • Fosters collaboration; embraces diversity and inclusion and actively seeks diverse perspectives.
  • Entrepreneurial, creative and resourceful – able to identify implement new programs and improve existing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive towards decision making among key team members while expressing an independent point of view.
  • Ability to develop & maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients; a collaborative, team-player mind-set is essential for success.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and working in a matrix environment and on cross-functional teams.
  • Travel up to 25%
