Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

The Human Resources Intern will directly assist the HR Business Partner(s) in daily tasks, projects, and job duties as assigned. The main goal of this internship is to acquire a working knowledge of the HR Laws and Regulations as well as gain understanding of Document Retention requirements and regulations while assisting in areas such as recruitment and retention.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist HR Business Partner(s) in file maintenance and upkeep
  • Attend job fair with the HR Business Partner(s) when applicable
  • Assist with the review of applicants for various manufacturing positions
  • Update materials for orientation and new hire onboarding
  • I-9 audit – Confirm I-9’s are on file for all HPS employees, verify information is accurate, retrieve I-9’s for employees not on file (review, obtain and verify identification and complete employer section) and document for audit purposes
  • HR File Audit – Audit personnel files to create a standard system of filing for all HR related documents. A checklist will be provided to address all items that should/should not be included in the HR File.
  • Clean HR File room – Go through boxes of folders, paperwork, and personal items to determine if the items should be discarded, shredded or filed.
  • Events – Assist with coordination and execution of HR events and initiatives (mailings, communication, set-up/break down, gathering supplies/information) (i.e. Health Fair, Holiday Event, Communication Meetings, etc.)
  • Implementation – Assisting with the administrative responsibilities required to implement new HR policies (i.e. data scrubbing/data review/formatting, setting up meetings, etc.)
  • Filing – File all paperwork for the HR team (including I-9’s, tuition reimbursement, general information, new hire folders, terms, benefit forms)
  • Terminations – Send exit information and schedule exit interview with appropriate HR rep. Submit SARF to IT, pull vacation balance, check for relocation bonus and tuition reimbursements within one, determine who direct reports will roll to and complete/submit manager change, pull HR File and I-9 and file with terms.
  • General Admin – Assist with mailers, verification of employment, ad hoc requests

Skills and Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or Business fields as a rising junior or senior, with a min 2.75 GPA Personable and able to comfortably deal with a variety of people
  •  Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook •
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects and complete deadline based projects appropriately 
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills desired
  • PHR or SPHR certification a plus.
