Job Overview

Hubbell Engineering in collaboration with Hubbell’s global divisions, accelerates the development of the most impactful technical solutions within Hubbell in fields like smart grid, green power, electrical safety, communications, and more. The Hubbell Summer Internship Program is a 10 to 12-week program providing students the opportunity to gain corporate experience, learn about all aspects of our business, and prepare students with the kind of experience needed to have a rewarding career at Hubbell.

 

The Mechanical Engineering Intern position offers various learning opportunities including helping with basic engineering tasks related to design and Mechanical engineering. Interns will typically support one or more experienced engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as the day-to-day operations of the engineering department. Interns will participate in additional activities and events which will help them build a strong network within the Hubbell community. A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by: 

  • Work with Mechanical engineers to support any design activities
  • Handle part design independently to completion
  • Design of mechanical or electro-mechanical components & mechanisms using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks 3D CAD software. Components may be comprised of injection molded plastic, rubber, stamped metal, sheet-metal, and cast or extruded metal parts.
  • Create standard drawings.
  • Assist in implementing design changes and communicate requirements to all impacted groups.
  • Identify potential improvements to products.
  • Expectations: The intern will be expected to work full-time at 40 hours/week and will be compensated on an hourly basis.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering with an Accredited University or College. Completed 4+ Semesters preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems, experience using 3D CAD software tools
  • Be highly motivated with a strong drive for results; communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
