Hubbell PCX seeks a Design Engineer I to become part of our dynamic engineering team. This position will be located in Knightdale, North Carolina.

A Day In The Life
The Design Engineer will be an integral member of the design team and be assigned data center or commercial and industrial modular, prefabricated electrical/mechanical systems design tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering design, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for developing efficient, high-quality mechanical and electrical solutions.
- Design and develop engineered systems and layouts for modular data centers, commercial, and industrial markets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, production, and sales to ensure project requirements are met and ensure designs are feasible for production.
- Utilize advanced engineering techniques and tools to create efficient, reliable, and cost-effective designs.
- Participate in detailed electrical design calculations and simulations to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
- Provide engineering documentation, including but not limited to design drawings, specifications, manuals, user guides, and technical reports.
- Participate in prototype development and oversee testing procedures to validate design performance.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements and changes in relevant standards to continually improve product design and functionality.
- Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and standards in modular data center construction and other relevant fields.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
- May participate in customer meetings, providing technical expertise and support during the pre-sales and post-sales process.
- Participate in testing and validation of new designs, ensuring they meet all required performance criteria.
- Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
- Modify and improve existing designs to enhance functionality and integration.
What will help you thrive in this role?
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with a strong focus on low voltage switchgear systems.
- Experience in the design and development of switchgear for data centers preferred.
- Proficient in electrical engineering software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, SKM Systems Analysis).
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, UL, ETL) preferred.
- Working Knowledge of ASCE, ASME, ASTM, ASHREA Standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple concurrent projects.
