Position Overview:

The Warranty/Field Service Engineer provides post-sales technical and troubleshooting support for our Commercial and Industrial markets.  This individual communicates directly with Contractors, Sales, Quality, Customer Service, and Manufacturing when necessary to resolve an issue.  Organization, problem-solving instintct, and detail-orientation are key traits to be successful in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Troubleshoot field problems reported by Technical Support, Sales Agents, Distributors, Contractors and/or End users of products.  Be able to communicate resolutions to all levels of technical understanding.
  • Assist in the evaluation of field problems associated with controls as the department point of expertise.  This individual will review reports provided by Quality team and provide direction/disposition on material.
  • Represent Field Services in evaluations and resolutions to field problems associated with controls products.
  • Determine the most efficient resolution for the customer's problems and advise of correct product to purchase based upon application needs.
  • Determine if product is to be scrapped, returned to the factory for rework, or problem resolved in the field.
  • Negotiate with contractors to reach an agreeable cost to resolve issues and determine if third party contractor services are required.
  • Determine if other functions of the business should be notified of the problem and incorporate their assistance in determine root cause - lead the effort to reach this determination.
  • When necessary, negotiate with vendors and/or issue charge backs to vendors to recover costs incurred to resolve field problems associated with vendor products.
  • Generate CARs (Corrective Action Requests) regarding defects identified through warranty issues that need to be corrected.  (Processing of CAR handled by QA) 
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting support to customers. 
  • Reports to manager product failure trends and serviceability issues with necessary supported documentation ensuring accurate information and record keeping.

 

Skills and Experience:

 

  • Problem-solving skills.
  • POE experience desired.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Strong computer and electronics experience.
  • Willingness to help others.
  • SAP Experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years technical customer support is required.
  • Programming experience is a plus.

Education:

Associates Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science

Bachelors Degree in Other Technology
