Position Overview

  • A software tester at Hubbell is involved in the quality assurance stage of the software development and deployment.  To ensure that the software meets the requirements you will create and execute manual tests.  You will also create automated tests when possible, or a combination of both.  In this role you will also be analyzing the activity behind a user interface. This activity is typically database access, execute SQL scripts or batch commands, read source code, and more.  In order to completely test the software you will collaborate with other lead engineers to properly set up lighting control test benches.
  • You will also work collaboratively with our cross-functional teams to produce test plans, test cases and utilize necessary tools to ensure that our software meets quality expectations.  From time to time you will also help produce various documents that may be missing or needed in the software development process.
  • The position regularly interfaces with all areas of the company such as the senior staff, customer service, technical service, sales, marketing, product management, operations and manufacturing.  From time to time it may be required to interface with customers.
  • Travel is not expected but because our teams are cross-departmental and distributed it may be require for you to occasionally travel to meet with other teams or to collect information at customer sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meeting with stakeholders to understand the scope of projects
  • Working with software developers and project support teams
  • Review business requirements and engineering specifications
  • Planning and executing tests  such as functional, system,  performance,  scalability, UAT and others if needed
  • Monitoring applications and software systems
  • Writing and executing both manual and automated test scripts
  • Testing in different environments and platforms such as desktop, web and mobile
  • Maintaining project portals with regard to issues tracking and other documentation
  • Establish test schedules and work towards departmental and project deadlines
  • Providing objective feedback to software development project teams
  • Presenting findings to software development and business user teams
  • Working on multiple projects at one time
  • Support technical services, customer services and marketing as necessary
  • Other responsibilities that relate to software testing

Skills and Experience

Required skills:

  • 5+ years of software testing experience
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and a solid understanding of the SDLC
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including analytical skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Automated and Manual testing skills
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with Web Services / REST API testing

 

Desired skills:

  • Experience using Selenium with WebDriver
  • Experience using Selenium and Python bindings
  • Linux experience
  • Software testing experience with networked devices, peripherals and IoT

Education

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
