Position Overview

Based in Shelton, CT and reporting directly to the Vice President, Business Transformation and indirectly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Director of Finance will serve as a key member of the Hubbell Incorporated Finance and Engineering organizations and will lead all aspects of financial support for the CTO and the Global Engineering team. The primary objective of this role is to serve as the financial business partner and subject matter authority for the Global Engineering team and assist in the execution of the short-term and long-term strategy as established by the CTO. The scope of this role includes partnering with the CTO in the design, implementation and ongoing management of a visible and metrics-based “single view of the truth” for the Engineering operations function and provide ongoing support, monitoring, data analysis, forecasting, planning, insight and value recommendations to the CTO and the Global Engineering team. This role will act as a liaison between Hubbell’s Financial organization and Hubbell’s Engineering organization and will collaborate cross functionally and across business Segments to help drive the strategic agenda and help deliver profitable growth solutions for Hubbell.

In addition, this role will also serve as the financial partner to the VP, Customer Experience and the VP, Information Technology. Finance leadership support for the VP, Customer Experience would include commercial finance support, primarily surrounding Hubbell’s large and strategic accounts and would include profitability analysis, maintenance, modeling and recommendations surrounding the enterprise rebate programs, assistance in managing and driving improvements in cash discounts and customer payment terms, and harmonization of commercial terms for Hubbell’s strategic accounts. Support for the VP, Customer Experience and the VP, Information Technology would also include ownership of department budgeting, forecasting, analysis of actuals and trends, coordination of functional restructuring actions, growth initiatives, capital expenditures, and other areas requiring financial involvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CTO to support the implementation and oversight of Global Engineering and NPD initiatives
  • Own the development and implementation of a uniform approach to measuring, evaluating and reporting standard financial performance, metrics and key performance indicators for Hubbell’s Engineering and NPD initiatives
  • Develop, implement and maintain appropriate enterprise-wide Engineering and NPD scorecards, Power BI data visualization dashboards, performance measurements and reporting cadence that are aligned with enterprise financial reporting where appropriate
  • Lead all aspects of the annual operating plan and quarterly forecasts for the CTO, VP Customer Experience, and VP, Information Technology organizations
  • Assistance with financial modeling, business case analysis and return on investment assessments for NPD and other functional opportunities
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Finance teams to provide appropriate levels of openness into NPD projects, Engineering spending and other key areas
  • Partner with the finance teams to review financial implications associated with key enterprise and segment engineering and NPD initiatives and ensure accurate alignments of spending, CAPEX, returns and timing
  • SME and financial specialist surrounding enterprise-wide spending on research, development and engineering (RD&E) and Information Technology.
  • Lead financial evaluation and cross-functional collaboration for Enterprise Engineering initiatives
  • Provide ongoing support for key restructuring initiatives and strategic growth opportunities
  • Evaluate certain capital expenditure initiatives
  • Support the CTO and the businesses with Engineering efficiency reporting tools, processes, analysis and recommendations as vital
  • Support specific planning processes for CTO
  • Support enterprise wide Engineering and NPD / R&D accounting and reporting policies and procedures as well as SAP cost (accounting) / cost collection / cost reporting strategy
  • Assistance with accounting and reporting for all Engineering and NPD costs across the enterprise
  • Help drive consistency in Engineering and NPD reporting and product costing
  • Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual financial and operational reporting package that includes relevant financial documents, critical metric reporting, operational Dashboard reporting, analysis of key business trends, actual versus Plan, forecast and prior year variances and comprehensive and executive-level explanations of differences
  • Ability to partner across multiple segments, businesses and functions to influence and accomplish objectives

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA, CMA and/or MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of finance and accounting positions of growing responsibility is required, including 3+ years in a manufacturing or engineering environment as a Plant Controller or Operations Accountant and 3+ years commercial finance support
  • Supervisory / managerial experience, including experience advising executive level managers
  • Demonstrates professional presence and validated ability to work with cross-functionally and influence others to accomplish functional and organizational objectives
  • Detailed knowledge of US GAAP, financial modeling, financial analysis, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
  • SAP experience required
  • Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) or One Stream preferred
  • Self-reliant, excellent problem solver, results oriented
  • Upbeat, flexible, collaborative and proactive; a team leader who can positively and efficiently impact both strategic and tactical finance, commercial and engineering initiatives
  • Experience in working in a matrix led environment a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, sophisticated Excel skills, data visualization experience
  • Strong written, verbal communications and PowerPoint presentation skills
  • Collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Confirmed capability to lead change
  • Must be familiar with requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act; Section 404
  • Must be flexible for travel as needed

Education

Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance
