Position Overview

 

The Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for taking a leadership role ensuring that the HLI quality assurance philosophy is communicated, facilitated, and followed at the HLI manufacturing site located in Christiansburg, VA.

Plant Quality Assurance Managers represent the Quality Assurance leadership for all quality matters on the plant level.  As a member of the factory staff, they have overall responsibility for all quality related programs and initiatives.  Based on data analysis they are responsible for ensuring the formulation, execution, and management of all quality related corrective action plans and the prevention of quality problems through an internal auditing process and data analysis. The Plant QA Manager will utilize continuous improvement process methodologies to assist in improving manufacturing efficiencies and product quality.  The Plant QA Manager has the authority to define and identify quality problems, initiate corrective action, and prevent release of non-conforming products.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

New Product Development (NPD):

  • Facilitate PFMEA, Test Plans, and Control Plan development as required by the One Hubbell New Product Development (1HNPD) process.
  • Support Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis within the 1HNPD process.
  • Ensure prototype qualification and test records meet standards and/or design requirements.
  • Verify performance, testing and certification documentation as required by the 1HNPD process.
  • Support the facilities with Production Set up and Launch of 1HNPD products.
  • Support the facilities with set up and validation of Quality Control Plans.
  • Monitor and report post launch effectiveness.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage returns materials authorization (RMA) process.
  • Lead defect/warranty root cause analysis and determination including oversight of the corrective action response (CAR).
  • Correlate quality notification (QN) data with warranty data to each production cell to drive quality process improvements and a reduction in customer escapes.
  • Embrace the Compliant Pro (C-Pro) document management software and ensure continual improvement practices to support the quality management system.
  • Develop supplier quality initiatives in partnership with Sourcing.
  • Advise product development on current quality issues and their status.
  • Mentor teams in the creation of quality systems, tools and techniques.
  • Support product development teams in developing, implementing and maintaining Manufacturing Test Plans.

 

Authority:

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non‐conformities relating to product, process, and quality systems.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system(s).
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.

Skills and Experience

 

  • 10+ yrs. experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Experience strongly desired with SAP and the associated modules that support Quality functions within the business.
  • Strong problem solving skills to include root cause analysis and root cause verification.
  • Understanding of project management (experience preferred).
  • Experience with various quality system methodologies 8D, Lean, 5 Why’s, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, etc. preferred.
  • Must work well with diverse groups of people, including hourly labor, and be able to function independently of direct supervision.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and passport in good standing and the ability to travel outside the USA.
  • Ability to lift up to prescribed OSHA standards.
  • Less than 10% travel expected.

Education

Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering General
