Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

Support and sustain electro-mechanical products used in medium voltage power distribution. The engineer will also participate in strategic initiatives such as new product development and cost reduction projects.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Support the product engineering and manufacturing teams on mechanical design projects.
  • Responsible for the design and development of new and existing products.
  • Participate in development, documentation, and maintenance of  test plans to validate product compliance to industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Review, author, and approve Engineering Change Requests, product drawings and other technical documentation.
  • Perform product troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis.
  • Interact with customers, sales, and marketing to solve design and manufacturing problems on existing parts.
  • Utilize CAD to modify and maintain product 2D/3D drawings.
  • Exhibit professional behavior including positive attitude, sense of urgency, independent judgment, teamwork, creative thinking and personal integrity to achieve goals and objectives of the business unit.
  • Must be comfortable working across engineering disciplines to support complex products.

Skills and Experience


  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Basic understanding of power electrical engineering principles.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks preferred).
  • Experience with industry electrical test standards.
  • Understanding of NPD process and practices.
  • Demonstrate consistent (and sustainable) application of problem solving and analytical skills in a team environment.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to support remote product lines as needed.



  • 3+ years of experience with distribution voltage equipment.
  • Basic understanding of SAP.
  • Experience and knowledge with interdisciplinary teams and functions i.e. quality, manufacturing, sourcing, scheduling.
  • Knowledge and experience with electrical engineering and computer science principles.  
  • Some documented history of developing patents, processes, trade secrets, etc.
  • Demonstrated participation in professional societies.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.


Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
