Duties and Responsibilities
  • Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules and resolving problems.
  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff goals by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure safe and proper operation of equipment by submitting requests for repairs.
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Provide clear leadership, direction and guidance to employees.
  • Assist in planning the work and make the necessary adjustments on the floor to complete the production schedule on time.
  • Provide accurate and on time completion dates when attending pre-established production meetings.
  • Identify possible bottlenecks and issues that may cause delays and potentially late shipments.
  • Make necessary suggestions to improve safety, quality, productivity, schedule performance, 5S, and utilization of equipment and manpower.
  • Embrace and encourage 5S philosophy at all times to achieve continual improvement.
Skills and Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a supervisory role in a manufacturing plant environment, specifically a press/brake fabrication dept., or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working within a union environment.
  • Associates degree preferred. Related work experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of proper capacity planning and load leveling techniques to maintain an effective production schedule.
  • Ensure work within the department meets pre-established quality assurance standards.
  • Excellent Written & Verbal Communication and Interpersonal Skills are required.
  • Examples of: Initiative; Leadership; & Innovation (“Outside the box” thinking), are required.
  • Demonstrated skill in contributing to a motivating work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest ethical standards in the work environment
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing work, setting priorities and planning required.
  • Demonstrated skill in earning and keeping co-worker and direct reports’ trust
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Project).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing is helpful.
  • Experience with SAP / ERP / MRP systems is helpful.
  • Experience with conducting Behavioral Based Safety Observations is helpful.

Education
Bachelors Degree
Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering General
