A Day In The Life

  • Provide the full scope of direct legal support to Hubbell’s utility segment businesses, which includes advising on the areas of commercial and manufacturing related transactions, marketing, real estate, intellectual property, product regulatory compliance, risk and safety, dispute resolution and litigation, and antitrust. 
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with customers, vendors, service providers and channel partners.     
  • Provide clear and practical legal advice to internal clients. 
  • Work closely with functional leads and business teams to help clients drive their business strategies. 
  • Proactively identify issues and develop solutions and roadmaps for same. 
  • Provide preventive, proactive legal advice on a broad range of general legal topics.   
  • Support the Hubbell legal department on mergers and acquisitions and other strategic transactions; collaborate and support post-acquisition integration activities for the segment. 
  • Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements, templates, tools and best practices, and support the implementation of Hubbell’s compliance and training programs. 
  • Manage outside counsel, as needed. 
  • Collaborate with internal legal experts to develop best practices and strategic advice. 
  • Assist with various complex and/or sensitive projects of the Legal Department, as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. 
  • Member in good standing of the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the area of commercial law including the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements. 
  • Able to work independently, but in a team environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective business partner, particularly to a commercial team. 
  • Able to think and act quickly and decisively.   
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to balance business needs with legal risks.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with particular emphasis on internal client communication and interaction. 
  • Strong negotiation skills. 
  • Able to establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with clients, coworkers, and colleagues at all levels of the organization. 
  • Possess strong organizational, time, and project management skills and both the ability and flexibility to handle high volume and balance competing demands.  
  • Good judgment, a high level of professional integrity and discretion, tact, and ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Self-starter, willing to take initiative and lead projects. 
  • Detail oriented. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Transactional experience at a law firm; prior in-house experience a plus. 
  • Adept at software and systems or willing to learn to become adept at such systems. 
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
