Job Overview

 

Reporting to the Director of Distribution, the Distribution Engineer will be responsible for improving logistics operations and processes for the Distribution Center using a variety of lean analytical methods, systems and tools. This position is responsible for data management, identifying problems and developing recommendations that support Distribution Center operations. As a project leader on key logistic initiatives, the Distribution Engineer will interact with customers, DC management and others throughout the organization.

A Day In The Life

 

  • Keep Safety as the top priority and ensure the safety of all employees, customers, and carriers.
  • Support distribution center in the design, development, and implementation of methods and tools to drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency, employee safety, quality, service, etc.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current or future distribution processes; evaluate the use of inventory tracking technology and warehousing software to maximize distribution center efficiency
  • Utilize project management and engineering tools to execute projects that satisfy internal and external customer requirements
  • Develop models to understand resources needed (forklifts, RF Tech, etc.) based on current and future customer demand.
  • Utilize reporting and data management tools to provide operational analysis and support
  • Conduct logistics analyses, such as time studies, zero-base, rate, network, flow-path, supply chain, Pareto, 80/20, etc.
  • Participate / lead in continuous improvement initiatives including but not limited to kaizen events, VSM’s, process mapping, etc.
  • Lead projects to drive improvements in inventory and cycle time.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Logistics, and/or Technology or equivalent certification. (BSIE) Industrial Engineering is highly preferred. CPIM, CSCMP or Six Sigma Certification preferred.
  • 2-4 years’ experience working in engineering, project management, or continuous improvement environment
  • Experience in the development of labor standards through time studies or pre-determined time standards
  • Strong PC skills required; especially with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • CPIM, CSCMP, or Lean Six Sigma Certifications preferred.
  • SAP, SAP WM (EWM) or similar ERP or MRP-II system experience preferred.
  • AutoCAD, MS Project and Visio or similar is highly desired.
